HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has welcomed Adnan Amin, Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), who is making farewell visit to mark the end of his duties in the UAE. The meeting was attended by Waleed Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development & Excellence at DEWA.

At the beginning of the meeting, Al Tayer welcomed Amin, mentioning his close relationships with the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and DEWA, and wishing him success in the future.

Al Tayer discussed the projects, initiatives, and plans launched by DEWA to achieve the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, highlighting that DEWA’s strategy is in line with UAE Centennial 2071, UAE Vision 2021, and Dubai Plan 2021 to ensure a sustainable, happy future and support the UAE’s aim to become first in everything. Al Tayer highlighted DEWA’s experiences and best practices in anticipating and shaping the future of energy by pioneering a futuristic model for utilities in the production, transmission, and distribution of electricity and water.

Al Tayer stressed that DEWA also has a clear vision, represented by the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, to secure its energy supply by diversifying the energy mix to provide 75% of Dubai’s total power output from clean energy by 2050. DEWA launched several projects and initiatives to achieve this objective, such as the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park with a production capacity of 5,000 megawatts (MW) by 2030.

Amin praised DSCE’s and DEWA’s efforts in realising the vision and directives of the UAE’s wise leadership, and commended Dubai’s robust drive towards sustainable development and green economy through its pioneering initiatives and strategies, including the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the initiative for the establishment of the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO).

In turn, Amin talked about the pioneering nature of the development of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park and the new low-cost benchmarks that it set that being of global significance.
