Hundreds of children participated in preparing around 1,000 school bags with stationery for the needy at Zayed’s Generation stand at Dubai Festival City mall. The event was organised by DEWA, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), social projects and initiatives for the Year of Zayed. The aim was to deliver these school bags to students from needy families, in cooperation with a number of school children from Dubai’s educational institutions working with DEWA volunteers.

“DEWA’s responsibilities are not just limited to providing reliable electricity and water services, but also include ensuring the economic, environmental, and social sustainability of Dubai and the UAE. We are committed to honouring our social responsibility in line with our corporate strategy that includes a series of leading humanitarian and charitable initiatives; which all support the community and bolster cohesion among its members. Our initiatives are in line with the objectives of the UAE Vision 2021 to create a society proud of its national identity, and the Dubai Plan 2021, which aims to make Dubai a home for happy and empowered individuals who live in an inclusive and cohesive society. We are eager to promote social responsibility and volunteerism among DEWA’s employees and community members as well as nurture the service of the nation among new generations, demonstrating the love Emiratis and residents have for the UAE,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

Al Tayer praised the families who ensured their children’s participation in Zayed’s Generations stand, highlighting how such activities aid in promoting volunteerism, cohesion, compassion, and philanthropy among the youth, in line with the objectives of Year of Zayed 2018 and the Year of Tolerance 2019.

“The process of developing our CSR strategy comprises several stages, including studying the internal and external environments, linking it with DEWA’s vision and strategic objectives, institutionalising community work, and a periodic assessment of these results. These efforts have contributed to achieving a 92% society happiness rate in 2017, complemented by multiple CSR initiatives at the local and international levels,” said Khawla Al Mehairi, Executive Vice President of Strategy & Government Communications at DEWA.
