During the Forum to celebrate Emirati Women’s Day, UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia), praised the outstanding contribution of its female employees during its voluntary campaigns to provide safe water to millions of people in need around the world. Suqia emphasised that Emirati women present a positive image of the UAE around the world as a symbol of tolerance, giving, and noble values.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Suqia, pointed out the important role that female Emirati employees play in supporting Suqia’s humanitarian works, deepening the values of tolerance and inter-cultural dialogue, that delivers a message worldwide, to reflect the UAE’s commitment to tolerance regionally and internationally.

“Emirati women have proved their competence at work. They are active partners on the path of growth and development, launched by our founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed, who supported women, and emphasised their right to work and fully participate in building the nation. Under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and umbrella of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives Foundation, Suqia has launched many voluntary campaigns inside and outside the UAE to provide safe drinking water to communities suffering from water scarcity and pollution, in cooperation with the relevant local and international organisations. By the end of 2018, Suqia’s projects had helped over 9 million people in 34 countries. During these campaigns, Emirati women have proved their commitment to the directives of HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood (Mother of the Nation), in adhering to the principles of Islam, and its customs, traditions and values as well as her generosity, patience, and love for all. Emirati women are the best representatives of the UAE which has become an example of co-existence and tolerance,” said Al Tayer.

Al Tayer pointed out that Suqia focuses on projects that support women. In many developing countries, women and girls are often responsible for collecting water for their families, and many girls leave school at an early age to collect water, over long distances, multiple times a day. This leads to suffering, health problems, and other threats. Suqia’s projects help to overcome these challenges and empower women in education and family care.

“Suqia’s female employees are very involved in our humanitarian works. They have helped to ensure the UAE’s position as the world’s largest donor relative to its national income. In line with the noble values and principles that our founding fathers instilled in the UAE, the daughters of Zayed continue to support our efforts, to reach millions of people in need around the world, in all of our humanitarian, community, and voluntary initiatives, translating the noble values of tolerance and giving and ensuring a positive impact on many communities,” said Mohammed Abdulkareem Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of Suqia
