HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), received a high-level Italian delegation led by HE Liborio Stellino, Italian Ambassador to the UAE. The delegation included Simonetta Grisanti, Commercial Attache, and representatives of the Italian Trade Agency, the General Confederation of Italian Industry, and financial institutions. This is one of a series of visits by diplomatic and consular officials to DEWA to consult and strengthen cooperation. The two parties discussed methods to build closer ties in the energy and water sectors.

The meeting was also attended by Waleed Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence; Dr Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources at DEWA; and Khawla Al Mehairi, Executive Vice President of Strategy & Government Communications at DEWA.

The meeting included discussions on ways to raise strategic partnerships between DEWA and Italian organisations, exchange best global experiences and practices, and benchmark renewable energy sources, energy storage, smart grid technologies, cybersecurity, innovation, disruptive technologies, and the latest developments in digital transformation and automation.

Al Tayer briefed the Italian delegation on DEWA’s most important projects, initiatives, and programmes that help achieve the vision and directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai to anticipate, shape, and build a sustainable future.

Al Tayer affirmed DEWA’s commitment to achieving the objectives of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to provide 75% of Dubai’s total power output from clean energy by 2050. To achieve this, DEWA initiated several green programmes and initiatives, including the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park in the world based on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model, with a production capacity of 5,000MW by 2030 and investments totalling AED 50 billion.

The Italian delegation expressed interest in participating in DEWA’s projects in clean and renewable energy and water and praised DEWA’s efforts in driving sustainable development in Dubai, which is a leading global hub for sustainability and green economy.
