Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) achieved world record results in the Sustainability Culture Indicator, achieving 90.17% in 2018 compared to 88.83% in 2017, exceeding the global average of 61% achieved by multinational organisations that completed the survey during the same year. The Sustainability Culture Indicator is conducted annually by organisations to measure the extent to which sustainability is embedded within their culture. These results underline DEWA’s efforts in promoting a culture of sustainability among all stakeholders in line with its vision as a leading sustainable innovative global corporation.

About 3,000 employees from all DEWA’s divisions took part in the survey. The results revealed a remarkable increase across all individual and organisational levels, especially in the areas of commitment, leadership, and sustainability. This reflects DEWA’s efforts throughout the year to improve institutional performance and implement a culture of sustainability among employees while enhancing their capabilities according to the highest international standards.

“DEWA’s remarkable results in the Sustainability Culture Indicator reflect our commitment to the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. This is done by spreading sustainability and making it an institutional culture that is positively reflected in our stakeholders in support of national efforts to promote sustainable development, preserving natural resources, protecting the environment, and the transformation towards a green economy. This indicator is particularly important as it offers credible, transparent, and in-depth results using a reliable methodology. This enables us to identify sustainable awareness among employees. The results, which exceed the average results attained by other organisations that have completed the survey, reflect our employees’ awareness of sustainability and their commitment to implement it,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

“These outstanding results highlight DEWA’s efforts in instilling knowledge and culture among its employees, which qualifies them to effectively contribute to achieving sustainability for a bright future for us and for generations to come. This supports the 50-Year Charter, the UAE Centennial 2071, and the UAE Vision 2021 which aims to achieve a sustainable environment in terms of air quality, conservation of water resources, increased reliance on clean energy, and green development. It also supports the Dubai Plan 2021 to make Dubai a sustainable city whose environmental elements are clean, healthy, and sustainable,” concluded Al Tayer.
