The Central Bank of Jordan and Aqaba Digital City have announced the signing of cooperation agreements that mark the official launch of the Kingdom’s first integrated national cloud-based cybersecurity services platform. The agreements also include the designation of Aqaba Digital City’s data center as the official Disaster Recovery Site (DRS) for the Central Bank.
The signing ceremony took place at the headquarters of Aqaba Digital City and was attended by Dr. Khaldoun Al-Weshah, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Jordan, and Eng. Eyad Abu Khurma, CEO of Aqaba Digital City.
This strategic partnership falls within the efforts of the Central Bank, through its Financial and Banking Sector Cybersecurity Incident Response Team (Jo-FinCERT), to strengthen the security posture of financial institutions and enhance resilience against the increasing wave of cyber threats. The platform aims to provide a comprehensive suite of cybersecurity services and solutions tailored to the sector’s needs, supporting digital transformation, financial technology innovations, and the protection of critical digital infrastructure.
Dr. Al-Weshah emphasized that the launch of the Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) platform, and the designation of Aqaba Digital City’s data center as the Central Bank’s Disaster Recovery Site, reflect a significant step toward building a secure and advanced digital environment that supports the stability of the financial sector. He added that this initiative aligns with the Royal Directives, which consistently advocate for adopting global best practices and advanced technologies to strengthen national digital sovereignty.
In turn, Eng. Eyad Abu Khurma expressed pride in this collaboration, stating:
“Today, we are proud to launch the first national SASE platform, in line with our ongoing efforts to provide secure and independent digital infrastructure that supports business continuity and enhances Jordan’s position as a regional hub for cybersecurity and advanced digital services.”
Aqaba Digital City was selected for hosting this platform due to its strategic advantage of providing an Internet Exchange Point (IXP), which enhances service continuity, ensures data protection within the Kingdom’s borders, and reinforces national data sovereignty.
