UAE government agencies and private multinational companies alike have launched initiatives to support women in the workplace.
In recognition of the role of women in the workplace, Careers UAE, the country’s top job fair being held at the Dubai World Trade Centre from 9-11 April 2017, has partnered with Hopscotch.ae, an organisation that sources flexible work and free training for professional women in the region, to host the Women’s Empowerment Conference. The conference, held on April 10th during Careers UAE invites 120 women to discuss the issues facing working women in the UAE today.
With Emiratisation plans continuing to be implemented across the region’s private sector, recent government reports reveal that 82% of job seekers in the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation’s database currently searching for work are in fact women . A report conducted by Hopscotch.ae shows that women seeking to join the workforce feel the need for support in terms of flexibility (79%), competitive pay (58%), childcare (53%), maternity leave (49%) and mentorship and training 46%).
According to 71% of females surveyed, employers should be in the driving seat to empower women, while six out of 10 feel UAE official bodies are important when it comes to helping empower women and 77% believe men are vital to that cause. Two thirds feel women should empower other women.
Hopscotch founder Helen McGuire said: “We have strategically partnered with Careers UAE, and organisations like PepsiCo, Mastercard, Nestle, good Magazine and Naseba, to make this large scale knowledge and networking event happen. We know that these businesses are on the side of women’s empowerment and support our cause.”
The 17th edition of Careers UAE, an event dedicated to empowering UAE nationals in the workforce and held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, will welcome a host of regional and international companies offering diverse employment prospects to Emiratis at DWTC.

“With Careers UAE we are always to provide the best opportunities for young, qualified Emirati talent, and the addition of the Women’s Empowerment Conference this year is part of our commitment to this objective,” said Asma Al Sharif, Director of Exhibitions, Exhibitions & Events Management DWTC..
Added McGuire: “It’s reassuring to also learn from the survey that 7 out of 10 women feel more confident about finding the right role for them since our launch last year.

“Women tell us time and again that they want access to useful meet and greet events with employers and the survey itself revealed that two-thirds believe women should empower other women.”

Careers UAE will see young professionals and graduates looking to ignite their careers assembling from around the Emirates to get in front of a wide range of employers committed to recruiting at the fair. Government agencies will be well represented at the job fair, looking to fill roles with fresh talent

These include event Gold Sponsors Dubai Electronic Security Centre (DESC), who set up in 2014 in support of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed’s vision of Dubai to be the safest smart city in the world. DESC is committed to supporting women in the workplace.

“We offer equal job rights to both females and males, and we are committed to motivating females by providing a positive environment that understands their needs. We also provide scholarships for Emirati students and will be taking applications at Careers UAE.”

DESC will be recruiting at the show for a number of positions in information security auditing, forensics, network security, information security architect, finance, strategy, electrical engineer, electronic engineer, media, advertising and public relations.

“We are seeking candidates who have a high Grade Point Average, are motivated, hardworking and willing to learn and obtain new skills,” said Amer Sharaf, the Director of Compliance Support and Alliances at DESC.

The Centre’s mission is to safeguard information, communications network and governmental information systems in Dubai in addition to enhancing, adjusting and implementing the necessary methods in the realm of e-security and raising efficiency by which information is maintained and circulated among all of the governmental entities in the Emirate.
