The University of Manchester hosts public masterclasses in Dubai

Manchester 1000 - مجلة مال واعمال

The University of Manchester Middle East Centre is hosting two masterclasses in Dubai, during July – both are free and open to the public, with prior registration required.

The masterclasses focus on key areas for Dubai and the region, including Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the leadership models emerging in project-based work. The university’s Masterclass series aims to provide attendees with the opportunity to learn more about a diverse range of business subjects, from disruptive technologies to business and leadership model innovation.

The masterclasses will be delivered by leading academics from the University and offer an insight into the Manchester Global Part-time MBA experience.

The masterclasses

Emerging leadership models in project based work

Professor Alicia Arribas

In what is probably the fastest revolution in human history, project-based organisations seem best placed to meet the challenges. Infrastructure construction is being driven by fast growing countries and the project-based economy, with an estimated 20% growth in project-based roles over the next eight years. Project-based organisations are facing a skills gap – 95% of project-based workers today are not certified or even call themselves project workers. In this masterclass, participants will explore how project leaders can create team environments to complete projects successfully, by aligning thinking with the realities of leading people in projects.

Date: Wednesday, July 19 2019

Time: 6.30pm to 8.30pm

Venue: Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel, Dubai. (Sapphire Level 2, Meeting Suite 1)

Data, Artificial Intelligence and the business

Professor Reza Salehnejad

Advances in computational, text and image recognition technologies, Machine Learning and statistics, and tracking engineering have paved the way for the Artificial Intelligence (AI) revolution. These advances are likely to impact and reshape organisations, and lead to the emergence of algorithmic firms. This masterclass will explore some of the drivers of the AI revolution, reflect on the role of evolving AI-based algorithms in organisations and discuss their implications for business strategy and corporate management.

Date: Monday, July 22 2019

The masterclasses are delivered by leading teaching faculty who are also practitioners in their areas. For prospective MBA students, these sessions also offer a taste of the Manchester Global Part-time MBA learning experience, which focuses on real world case studies and learning by doing.”

The University of Manchester Middle East Centre has supported more than 2,500 part-time MBA students based in the region and has graduated more than 1,500 students since opening in Dubai Knowledge Park in 2006, making it the largest and fastest growing centre in the university’s international network. The blended learning part-time study option leads to the internationally recognised Manchester MBA degree awarded by the University of Manchester.

The University of Manchester achieved a five-star rating in the recent higher education classification initiative by the Knowledge & Human Development Authority in Dubai, and the Manchester Global Part-time MBA was awarded the ‘Best MBA Programme’ by Forbes Middle East, in its inaugural Middle East Higher Education Awards.

The university reached its highest-ever position in the QS World University Rankings 2019, which now lists The University of Manchester as the world’s 27th best university.
