Future King’s hospital in Dubai to implement Cerner’s integrated health IT platform
King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, one of London’s largest and busiest teaching hospitals, has selected Cerner, a global leader in health care technology, to integrate a networkwide health IT system at its coming Dubai-based hospital, King’s College Hospital Dubai. This hospital is a joint venture with Al Tayer Group, Dubai Investments and UK-based Ashmore Group Plc. The announcement was made at the Arab Health Exhibition and Congress, the Middle East’s largest health care trade show.
Following the announcement, Dr. Simon Fraser, medical director, King’s College Hospital London, Dubai, explained: “The UAE is home to a very diverse population, and we adopt a holistic approach for all patients, irrespective of background and lifestyle. Disease management and prevention are no longer secondary to diagnosis and treatment.”
King’s Dubai’s implementation of Cerner technology will aid in the automation of care venues and moving toward a paperless environment, initiatives that support the UAE Vision 2021 National Agenda, a national program developed to advance national priorities and achieve a world-class health care system.
The CernerMillennium® electronic health record (EHR) will be implemented across King’s Dubai, a 100-bed, multi-specialty hospital set to open in 2018 at the heart of the premium community, Dubai Hills Estate, and two multi-specialty clinics. The EHR is designed to support an individual’s health care journey across the continuum, from the doctor’s office to the hospital and outpatient clinics, through an online patient portal.
Simon added, “Using Cerner Millennium, King’s doctors will have access to investigate the patient’s predisposing factors within their respective clinical fields. This will help doctors treat and follow each patient in a unique way, facilitating preventive medicine.”
Millennium Revenue Cycle™, Cerner’s portfolio of financial management solutions designed to optimize provider and user workflow, will also be implemented with the enterprisewide EHR. This integration will result in a Clinically Driven Revenue Cycle™, which is designed to provide clinicians and staff with the resources to update the billing process throughout the patient’s visit, enhance clinical documentation to help improve reimbursement and limit claims errors. King’s Dubai will have a single source of truth for patients’ financial liability, which will benefit patients with a streamlined experience.
“The UAE’s 2021 vision encourages its population to lead healthier lives by creating a culture of proactive health management. The networkwide EHR will help King’s Dubai create a patient-centric health care delivery system and engage individuals across the region,” said Ali Slimani, general manager, Cerner Middle East. “We are honored that King’s Dubai has shown such confidence in Cerner and are proud to welcome them as the first private hospital in the UAE to the Cerner family.”
King’s Dubai is set to become one of the first UAE-based hospitals to offer liver transplant procedures. While its doors will open in 2018, its Dubai-based clinics will open in 2017. King’s Dubai’s expansion follows the opening of its flagship Medical & Surgical Centre in Abu Dhabi in 2014.
