DEWA reports progress on four clean energy Dubai projects | DEWA launches ‘Green Dubai’ sustainability initiative | DEWA and BSI to co-develop electricity and water standard
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has awarded contracts worth $25m (AED93m) for cast resin distribution power transformers to boost emirate-wide energy distribution.
Dewa has awarded multiple contracts to design, manufacture, test, and supply 990 units of 11/0.4kV, 1,500kVa, and 1000kVA transformers to increase electricity distribution reliability in Dubai.
The 990 power transformers will arrive in July 2019.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and chief executive officer of Dewa, said: “Dewa continues to implement vital development projects in line with its vision, which is aligned with federal and local strategies.
“These include the UAE Vision 2021, the National Agenda, the UAE Centennial 2071, Dubai Plan 2021, and the Smart Dubai initiative.”
Al Tayer hailed Dewa’s “significant achievements” while investing in, and managing, Dubai’s electricity and water network.
The bulk purchase of 990 power transformers, part of Dewa’s aim to improve power and water availability in the emirate, comes after it acquired 1,570 distribution transformers in a $35.3m (AED129.55m) deal last year.
Meanwhile, the authority revealed this July that it planned to construct 91 stations and substations between 2018 and 2020 to support electricity distribution. This initative is expected to cost up to $3.1bn (AED11.4bn).
