HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), welcomed Dr Wolfgang Leitner, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Executive Board of Andritz AG, led a delegation comprising Peter Magauer, Managing Director of Andritz Hydro, and Karl-Heinz Schlogelbauer, Vice President of Business Development Large Hydro at Andritz Hydro. The meeting was held at DEWA’s Head Office, attended by Marwan Bin Haidar, Executive Vice President of Innovation and the Future at DEWA.
Al Tayer welcomed the visiting delegation, stated that these meetings are part of DEWA’s commitment to share best international practices and expertise with power and water companies, and briefed them on DEWA’s most important projects, initiatives, and programmes, stressing its commitment to achieve the objectives of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to provide 75% of Dubai’s power from clean energy by 2050.
Al Tayer spoke about Dubai’s experience in developing the renewable and alternative energy sector, rationalising the consumption of natural resources, and finding alternative solutions to traditional energy to achieve sustainable development in the Emirate. DEWA is working to enhance its infrastructure and total production capacity, which currently is 10,927 megawatts (MW) of electricity and 470 million imperial gallons per day (MIGD) of desalinated water.
The delegation presented Andritz AG’s services in the UAE and expressed interest in participating in DEWA’s projects, especially as it is a leading global company in construction, bridges, dams, and electromechanical systems and services.
