Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) organised an Earth Hour Treasure Hunt, as part of efforts to celebrate Earth Hour 2017 in Dubai. Earth Hour is held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, and under the umbrella of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE). All Earth Hour events aim to raise awareness of the threats from climate change and global warming, so that the community and DEWA employees can have fun, while learning about rationalisation and the conservation of electricity, to preserve natural resources and protect the environment.

The Earth Hour Treasure Hunt witnessed great participation from DEWA employees, residents and visitors, who were taken back in time on a journey through old Dubai, while they raced to find the treasure. Participants gained insights into sustainability along with the history of Dubai, through a number of clues across the old districts and iconic landmarks in Dubai. They had to search for answers relating to environmental sustainability, and build models of Dubai landmarks, using recyclable materials and be involved in competitions that highlight DEWA’s projects and initiatives in the field of sustainability, rationalisation, and the conservation of natural resources. Finally, participants competed in all rounds in the Earth Hour Treasure Hunt, to win valuable prizes.

“In adherence with the directives of the wise leadership, DEWA continues to increase Dubai’s contribution in international efforts to reduce carbon emissions that cause global warming. DEWA works to achieve this by launching a number of local and international environmental events to promote awareness. The Earth Hour Treasure Hunt reflects DEWA’s efforts to diversify means of raising awareness about sustainability, using innovative and engaging methods of spreading the culture of innovation among community members, to ensure a secure and sustainable future,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

“We are pleased to be cooperating with Heba Bin Redha to organise this event that combines the element of adventure with raising awareness about environmental issues. The success of the Earth Hour Treasure Hunt inspires us to continue our efforts to launch further awareness programmes and exciting interactive initiatives, that engage with the community and promote the rationalisation of electricity and water consumption, in addition to conserving natural resources, to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come,” said Amal Koshak, Senior Manager of Marketing Communications at DEWA.
