“The UAE’s leadership attaches great importance to water security, which is one of the seven strategic sectors of the National Innovation Strategy, and one of the main pillars of the UAE Vision 2021. The UAE Water Security Strategy 2036 aims to ensure sustainable access to water during both normal and emergency conditions. In addition to its strategy to ensure water security locally, the UAE plays a leading role in supporting international efforts to combat the challenges of water scarcity. Under the umbrella of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives Foundation, the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia) plays a significant role by providing drinking water to communities suffering from water scarcity and pollution, in collaboration with leading local and international organisations. Suqia’s efforts also include research and development to innovate sustainable solutions for water desalination and purification using solar power. By the end of 2018, over 9 million people in 34 countries around the world benefited from Suqia’s projects,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Suqia.
“The Arabian Water Day is an invitation to all members of society to protect natural resources, especially water. It’s also an invitation to governments and organisations in the Arab World to work together to provide sustainable solutions to use water more efficiently and raise awareness about its issues and challenges, to boost the sustainability of water resources and achieve water security. On this day, we restate our commitment to continue our humanitarian and volunteer efforts to ensure clean water to the needy across the world,” added Al Tayer.
