HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), stated that the UAE’s wise leadership prioritised empowering women, respecting them, and activating their important role in the development process over the past decades. The success of Emirati women is derived from the efforts of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and continues under the leadership of HH Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE; HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; and HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. Their Highnesses continuously support women in all their roles as mothers, educators, and effective and decisive partners in achieving comprehensive and sustainable development in all economic, social, and environmental aspects.

Al Tayer made these remarks during his visit to the Women’s Museum, accompanied by Khawla Al Mehairi, Executive Vice President of Strategy and Government Communications; and members of the Women’s Committee at DEWA, upon an invitation by Dr. Rafia Ghubash, Founder of the Women’s Museum. Dr. Ghubash received and accompanied the delegation on a tour within the museum. This included the ‘Memory of the Place’ which displays images of influential figures from UAE society and some heritage collections; the ‘Heart of the Place’ which documents the history of Emirati women in politics, education, economy, community development and stability, women and humanitarian work, among others. The tour visited ‘Zayed Empowering Women’s hall; ‘Bait Al Banat’ gallery to view distinguished works of Emirati female artists; and ‘Diwan Ousha Bint Khalifa’ room, containing a poetic heritage of the most prominent Emirati poet Ousha Bint Khalifa, known as ‘Girl of the Arabs’. The tour ended in the Women’s Studies Centre where two documentaries were screened; the first was about education history, while the second told the story of Dubai’s women in the 60s’. Both films are directed by Dr. Ghubash and are exclusively owned by the Women’s Museum.

Al Tayer thanked Dr. Ghubash for her kind invitation, and said: “Women throughout the history of the UAE have played a fundamental role in the tremendous development of all fields. They continue to inspire a future that is becoming more beautiful and radiant, thanks to their determination and dedication that advance development while preserving the values and teachings of the deep-rooted Arab and Islamic traditions. The museum draws a vibrant picture of Emirati women and highlights their contribution to the UAE’s success story by presenting their achievements and creations in every aspect of life, such as in business, arts, education, and community development. This enhances their role and empowers the society as a whole, in line with the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who once observed: ‘We have moved beyond the phase of empowering women. Indeed, we are empowering society through women.’ DEWA attaches great importance to all women and provides them with an ideal environment to unleash their potential, talents, innovation, and creativity.” Al Tayer stressed that such visits to institutions concerned with women’s issues and their role in the development of society are a source of inspiration for DEWA’s female employees, motivating them to gain more knowledge and experience, and excel in various aspects of life.

Dr. Rafia Ghubash appreciated the initiative of HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer to visit the Women’s Museum, She thanked Al Tayer for the visit since he praised the efforts exerted to establish and support the museum. Ghubash stressed that this visit gives them at the museum the determination to continue this documentation of the UAE’s history. She also praised all the support provided by DEWA for the public benefit organisations, including the Women’s Museum.
