Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) celebrated the graduation of 59 children from its nurseries in 2017. These are employees’ children who turned four, and completed the requirements to go to kindergarten. Nursery management organised the ceremony, which was attended by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

“Under the directives of the UAE’s wise leadership, and in line with our corporate social responsibility, we are committed to providing an ideal, motivating, and happy working environment, for our female employees, to provide working mothers with social and emotional support to stablise their their families and careers. In 2010, DEWA established the nurseries to support and empower working mothers and provide a working environment that provides social and psychological care for mothers working near their children. This enhances their productivity, and improves their performance at work, benefitting society as a whole,” said Al Tayer.

“DEWA is one of the first government institutions to establish nurseries to support working mothers. Today, it has the largest number of nurseries compared to other government institutions in Dubai, with a capacity of 175 children, and this capacity will increase in the future. These kindergartens operate according to the highest international standards of modern education and upbringing, through qualified teachers and supervisors. They are keen to develop the mental abilities of the children of female employees, through various educational and recreational activities, that contribute to their upbringing,” added Al Tayer.

“DEWA established the first nursery for its employees’ children in February 2010, according to the highest international standards in modern education and upbringing, with a capacity of 40 children. Another nursery opened with a capacity for 48 children in the Sustainable Building at Al Quoz in April 2013. The third nursery opened at DEWA’s Al Warsan centre, which accommodates 87 children. A total number of 341 children have graduated from DEWA’s nurseries,” said Dr Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources at DEWA.
