WETEX 2017 attracts key industry players in water desalination, treatment, and conservation technologies

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) organises the 19th Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) 2017, with the theme ‘At the Forefront of Sustainability,’ to translate the vision of the wise leadership of the UAE to transform into green economy and achieve sustainable development. WETEX takes place under the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and President of DEWA, from 23 to 25 October at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre (DICEC). This year’s WETEX is the largest and biggest for exhibition space and the number of participating countries, exhibitors and sponsors.
The 19th WETEX shows its leading position as a global platform that brings together decision-makers, experts, and officials from around the world, to exchange experiences, enhance collaboration, build partnerships, and learn about the latest innovations, technologies and projects in the fields of traditional and renewable energy, water and the environment, as well as rationalisation, sustainability, green buildings, electric vehicles, charging stations, and smart networks. The exhibition is organised under the umbrella of Green Week, in conjunction with the second Dubai Solar Show and the fourth World Green Energy Summit (WGES), during which over 60 speakers from all over the world will focus on key topics, such as Smart Cities, Green Economy, Innovation, and Sustainable Development. Covering a surface area of over 70,000 square metres, WETEX 2017 will play host to 2,000 exhibitors from 50 different countries,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, and Founder and Chairman of WETEX.
One of the world’s largest specialised exhibitions
WETEX has cemented its position as one of the largest specialised exhibitions in the world, and the biggest of its kind in the region. The exhibition offers an ideal platform for international companies to introduce the latest innovative solutions, services and products, at a time when the UAE and the region in general continue to launch promising projects in energy, water, environment and clean energy, in line with their strive to achieve sustainable development and transform from an oil-based economy to a diversified and more sustainable economy that conserves natural resources and environment and enhances their global competitiveness. HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, and President and Founder of WETEX, announced the completion of all preparations, confirming full readiness to launch the new edition of WETEX, which has become a world-class, integrated specialised event that pays great attention to supporting the path of sustainability, and an important annual platform to showcase the latest technologies and a destination for decision makers, investors and business visitors from around the world.
“WETEX supports the nation’s efforts to strengthen the UAE’s global leadership on the global map of green economy and sustainable development. The significance of WETEX stems from its focus on the latest solutions and technologies related to clean and renewable energy and the important fields that embodies the wise vision of our leadership and supports the objectives of the national Green Economy for Sustainable Development initiative, which was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to transform the country into a global hub for exporting, and re-exporting green products and technologies; and the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, to make Dubai a global centre of clean energy and green economy through providing 7% of Dubai’s total power output from clean energy by 2020, 25% by 2030, and 75% by 2050,” Al Tayer added.
Al Tayer said that Dubai has rapidly become a global model in clean energy, as its sectors are all focusing on further contributing to sustainable development, pointing out that DEWA is implementing ambitious initiatives to increase reliance on solar energy. He added that DEWA continues to develop major projects for renewable and clean energy in Dubai, including the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, Shams Dubai initiative to connect solar photovoltaic systems in the buildings to DEWA’s network, and the Green Charger initiative to establish infrastructure and electric vehicle charging stations.
Strengthening Dubai’s leading position in green economy and sustainable development
DEWA supports Dubai’s efforts to transform into a green economy and host Expo 2020 Dubai, which focuses on three themed districts, called Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability, by enhancing infrastructure and service facilities in accordance with the highest international standards, to meet the basic needs of people and businesses alike. DEWA is committed to putting the Dubai Green Mobility Initiative into practice and encouraging the use of sustainable transport vehicles, mainly hybrid and electric cars, which will reduce 19% of total carbon emissions in Dubai.
DEWA continues its efforts to launch and implement leading smart initiatives and services in line with the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, including the largest single-site Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) project in the world. This will be the fourth phase of the solar park and will generate 700 megawatts (MW). DEWA also recently launched a package of incentives as part of the Green Charger initiative in collaboration with Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), to encourage the use of electric vehicles, to reduce the carbon footprint, achieve sustainable development, increase the use of clean energy and protect the environment from effects of the transport sector in the Emirate.
Success story over 19 years
The beginning of WETEX goes back to 1999, which at that time was an exhibition dedicated to water management technologies. Since then, the exhibition rapidly progressed, to include the energy sector in 2001, environment and waste management sectors in 2004, and later green building and carbon dioxide reduction solutions in 2008. The oil, gas and coal fields of fossil fuel sector were added to the exhibition’s scope in 2012, followed by the addition of Dubai Solar Energy Exhibition in 2016 as the largest international solar energy exhibition in the region.
Remarkable success of 18th WETEX
The 18th WETEX gained remarkable success and a wide turnout from exhibitors, visitors, participants, and government bodies; where the exhibition provided a global platform to showcase latest technologies relating to the sectors of energy, water, environment, and clean energy. The exhibition included an elite of experts, specialists, solution providers, investors, decision makers, and consumers from both public and private sectors. Around 400 commercial interviews were made within the free-of-charge B2B service aimed at facilitating interviews between sponsors, exhibitors, and business visitors during the exhibition in order to provide the exhibitors with opportunity to scale up and present their businesses, and hold transactions.
Latest innovative technologies and solutions in water, environment and energy
This year’s WETEX includes the participation of broader sub-sectors of manufacturers, service providers, and technological companies to participate with a view to incorporate a vast array of products and technologies to reach a wider segment of visitors. The exhibition will bring together the manufacturers and service providers with senior officials, decision makers, and business buyers in the UAE and the region. The exhibition will also provide investors in these sectors with an opportunity to review the leading and latest technologies in these areas.
WETEX 2017 will also show the latest technologies and equipment in energy, including turbines, compressors, engines, electricity and power generators, air cleaning and purifying equipment, batteries, high tension cables, wire manufacturing technologies, calibration measurement equipment and devices, protection and prevention systems, centrifuge machinery, communication equipment and systems, industrial and residential control systems, safety and security management systems, air conditioning and heating devices, diesel engines, firefighting systems and equipment, safety precaution equipment, energy transformers, electronic systems monitoring, anti-corrosion equipment, in addition to the power-efficient electric devices.
In addition, the 19th WETEX will also bring together the most prominent operators in the water technology sector to show the latest solutions and technologies, including water treatment and desalination stations, water pipes of all kinds, refrigerators and heaters, and water reservoirs and the other related products and solutions; in addition to the pumps, valves, and the latest irrigation systems, and agricultural and horticultural equipment and machinery; water suction machines; and water-related programmes and equipment. The exhibition will also put the spotlight on water leakage detection and treatment products, composite overwrapped tanks, leakage detection equipment, as well as different materials used in the water transfer sector.
2nd Dubai Solar Show
Following the remarkable success of the 1st Dubai Solar Show last year, DEWA is organising the 2nd Dubai Solar Show in conjunction with WETEX 2017. The 2nd Dubai Solar Show is set to highlight the latest innovations and technologies in solar power, as well as the region’s largest energy and water projects by providing an ideal platform for establishing partnerships with government and private sectors with a view to develop innovative solutions.
The Dubai Solar Show is expected to attract the largest companies and bodies specialised in solar energy sector from across the world, as it will serve as an important platform for both public and private sectors to conclude agreements and establish partnerships; to be updated on latest technologies in the solar energy sector, current and future projects in the region; as well as to identify market needs and opportunities to contribute to the leading solar energy projects and programmes in the wake of the continuous efforts of the UAE and the entire region in general to increase reliance on the renewable and clean energy. The show, which will be held on a total surface area estimated at around 14,000 square metres, serves as the region’s most outstanding commercial platform for the products, solutions, and technologies of producing and storing solar energy.
WGES 2017
The 4th WGES 2017 will take place from 24 to 25 October 2017 at Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, constitutes one of the leading platforms of green economy, bringing together an elite of the world experts from all around the world to directly focus on the advancement of the global green and sustainable economy, realising sustainable development objectives drawn up by the United Nations, and implementing the recommendations of the UN Climate Change Conference number 21 and 22.
Over its two days, the 4th WGES is expected to also discuss varied leading practices and eco-friendly solutions that will offer several opportunities to enhance sustainable green economy. It will also serve as a leading global platform for promoting dialogue and joint cooperation, as well as partnerships among different interested sectors operating in this field by bringing them together, exchanging innovative solutions and inspirational leading practices, and aligning stakeholders with policy makers with a view to create a favourable environment and ecosystem for green and sustainable development in order to meet present and future needs.
