SWS SENIOR CUP VICTORY FOR ROMALDO LABROOY AT DUBAI KARTDROME

-

Labrooy takes top senior spoils while Mohammed Ismail continues Masters winning ways

The first Sodi World Series (SWS) race night took place at Dubai Kartdrome last night (10 July), with 25 competitors braving the warm UAE summer temperatures to battle for top honours.

The consistency delivered on the track by Romaldo Labrooy paid off and saw him picking up the evening’s top honours with a win and second place, holding off Aron Demirovski in race one, and finishing second to Anjum Shaikh, only two seconds behind, in race two.

Masters class winner Mohammed Ismail pulled a double heat win while combining it with the front runners in the senior’s category despite his kart weighing 10kg heavier.

After a win and 6th place finish in the final round of the SWS Ramadan Challenge, a four-round race which ran throughout the Holy Month, Labrooy narrowly lost out in the Championship taking 2nd place. This time, however, his steadiness paid off as he seemed more determined than ever to take the top spot overall.

During race one, Demirovski was locked in a battle with Anjum Shaikh for second and third place, beating him to the line for 2nd while Shaikh had his revenge on Demirovski and Labrooy in race two taking home the win.

The Masters category, for 35 year olds and over, saw six Karters take part, including Ramadan Challenge Masters Champion Mohammed Ismail continuing his form, taking both class wins, while Heiki Eelma took second and Fergal Kelly third in race one. In race two, it was a role reversal with Kelly taking second and Eelma third.

The next SWS Race Night takes place on 24 July 2017 at the outdoor Dubai Kartdrome track.
