Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) strives to ensure that Arabic is the predominant language across all its operations. We have launched many distinctive initiatives and programmes to promote its usage, so that we restore its leading position as a language of civilisation, progress, and prosperity. We will spare no efforts to disseminate its use, as we are proud of our national identity and values which can be seen in our Arabic and Islamic roots.
This is in adherence with the directives of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, who declared 2016 as the Year of Reading, and also in implementation of the wise vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who stated that our national identity is integrally linked to Arabic, which serves as an effective medium to express our values, culture and heritage. Moreover, we aim to achieve the objectives of UAE Vision 2021 to establish the UAE as a global ‘centre of excellence’ for Arabic.
At DEWA, we encourage our people to use it on a daily basis, for internal and external communication and transactions and consider it the official language for our services, work systems and reports. Most of our services, projects and initiatives have special Arabic names and titles. We are also committed to using Arabic as the predominant language for all our press releases, articles, reports, media interviews, advertisements, brochures and social media. We will also continue to develop and launch educational and awareness programmes for our employees to improve their use of Arabic effectively.
On the occasion of World Arabic Language Day, we renew our commitment to supporting Arabic as a language of science, innovation and future. We undertake to maintain it as an Islamic value and national duty, in order to consolidate our historical roots and national identity.
