Two days of racing action for National Race Days Power Weekend
Two international series return to Dubai Autodrome to feature alongside the best of local motorsport for the National Race Days (NRD) Power Weekend starting Friday, 9 December through Saturday, 10 December 2016.
The MRF Challenge kicked off its season in Bahrain last month and now moves on to Dubai Autodrome for the weekend. The Indian formula race car series boasts a collection of talented drivers, some with acclaimed family race heritage which include young stars such as Mick Schumacher, Harrison Newey, and Manuel Maldonaldo.
Lechner Racing will also be coming to town, bringing with them a squad of race prepared Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars to line up on the grid for Round Two of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East. Luxembourg driver Dylan Pereira will be looking to extend his early lead in the championship, while Ryan Cullen and Charlie Frijns are close behind and looking to usurp the frontrunner position.
Headlining the national racing side will be the NGK Enduro, featuring an eclectic mix of GT and Touring Car class vehicles, as well as open-cockpit Radical SR3s, slugging it out for two hours on the Grand Prix Circuit. Dragon Racing’s Ferrari 458 GT3 will be the favourite to take the chequered flag but K &K Duck Racing will have an immaculate Audi R8 LMS Ultra ready to challenge.
The GT cars will rule the straights at Dubai Autodrome but the nimble Radicals will have the advantage in the corners, giving them a chance for victory. The middle section of the grid will also be hotly contested, especially in Class Two, featuring the ever-feisty Clio Cup.
The two wheeled daredevils return for the next round of the UAE Sportbike Championship with reigning champion Abdulaziz Bin Ladin back in the line-up with his Kawasaki ZX6R, looking to get back in the hunt after missing out in Round One.
Ahmed Almuyini, Mahmoud Tannir, and Nasser Al Shaiba will all do their best to keep Bin Ladin from getting back in the winning groove.
Young stars look to shine in the Formula Gulf Academy races, with a $20,000 Gulf Sport Racing scholarship up for grabs for the champion at the end of the season. Polish driver Aleks Karkosik currently leads the single seater championship with Saudi Omar Gazzaz within striking distance.
NRD Power Weekend qualifying and races will commence at 09:00 on Friday morning and action will continue throughout the weekend until 17.00 on Saturday evening.
