Huge turnout at DEWA’s Innovation Month activities at Head Office and City Walk

The activities organised by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) during its Innovation Week, part of the UAE Innovation Month, at its Head Office and City Walk, saw a huge turnout from the public of all ages who reviewed DEWA’s latest innovations and applications. Visitors participated in workshops and reviewed the latest technologies in smart cities, robotics, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and 3D Printing, among others. DEWA organised 71 events to enhance innovation, celebrate innovators and underline its position as a leading government organisation in this area.
HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, visited DEWA’s activities at City Walk. He was received by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA. HE Abdulla Mohammed Al Basti, Secretary General of the Executive Council of Dubai; HE Khalfan Belhoul, CEO of the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF); Najeeb Al Ali, Executive Director of the Dubai Expo 2020 Bureau, and a number of officials from the government and private sectors also reviewed DEWA’s activities during the UAE Innovation Month.
7th Annual Innovation and the Future Conference
DEWA organised its 7th Annual Innovation and the Future Conference during the UAE Innovation Month. The conference was attended by HE Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence. Patrick Schwerdtfeger, Futurist; Daan Roosegarde, Artist & Innovator; and Emirati Alia Al Mansoori, UAE Genes in Space Winner gave presentations at the conference.
Zayed’s Innovation Oasis
As part of its activities during the Year of Zayed, DEWA organised numerous activities at Zayed Innovation Oasis in its head office. These included workshops and lectures by DEWA’s staff and partners on robotics, AI, smart homes, blockchain, virtual reality, and innovative workshops for kids. The Oasis also featured projects by start-ups, Year of Zayed exhibition to commemorate the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Future Interactive Exhibition, and models of smart homes.
Innovation Tent
DEWA’s activities at the Innovation Tent in its head office include an AI hackathon for staff, and specialised workshops on robotics, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), 3D Printing, smart grid applications, and lectures on ‘Future Jobs’, ‘The Power of Sand’, and ‘Sketch Thinking- Sketch your Ideas’. The tent also displayed innovations by DEWA’s divisions and by people of determination.
DEWA’s Innovation Cube at City Walk
At City Walk, Dubai, DEWA displayed its latest innovations and future projects. These included AI and hologram technologies, Rammas – DEWA’s virtual employee, and its Future Centre for Customer Happiness, as well as live streaming of DEWA’s Innovation Week activities.
Innovation Hub on Wheels
DEWA hosted the Innovation Hub on Wheels which introduced the EcoStruxure design of smart cities, in addition to the latest technologies that focus on mobility, oil and gas, data centers and services.
DEWA’s Innovations
During UAE Innovation Month, the public reviewed DEWA’s latest innovations and projects. These included: Smart Gloves, that can give warnings of high voltage current, linked to a smart app. It includes many features such as blood pressure measurement, and live video. The Smart Helmet, which is solar powered is used to monitor the implementation of projects and the safety of workers in field sites. It has a camera, a remote communications system and a cooling system. The Smart Jacket features a camera monitor, a tracking system, an emergency system, and is also solar powered. The Smart Warning Tape is used with power cables. If the tape is cut off, an alert is sent via a smart app, indicating the location of the damage. The Smart Chair has multiple uses including emergency cases, as well as measuring blood pressure and sugar levels.

Workshops & activities for students
DEWA dedicated several activities and workshops for students during UAE Innovation Month. A workshop was organised for students at Dubai Safari on robotics, and another one was organised for 30 of DEWA Academy’s students, under the title, ‘Innovation through Inspiration’. DEWA also organised drawing activities for children.
Innovative recreational activities
During the Innovation Month, DEWA organises innovative recreational activities, including the Little Bits Training & Challenge, Run For Your Bun café where you exercise instead of paying in cash, and other innovative activities.
