Dubai Supreme Council of Energy promotes the Emirates Energy Award 2017 in Oman

Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE) held a press conference in Oman to promote the 3rd Emirates Energy Award (EEA 2017) that will be held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai under the theme ‘Innovative Solutions for Clean Energy’.
The press conference held at Grand Hyatt in Muscat was attended by representatives from the Omani energy sector specialising in energy, environment and water technology. These organisations were updated on the award’s importance, categories and eligibility criteria.
“It is our honour to hold the EEA 2017 under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. EEA is one of the most important and prominent platforms for shaping the future of energy and water sectors in Middle East and North Africa region (MENA). It focuses on parameters to facilitate best practices in energy management and efficiency. This is aligned with the UAE Vision 2021, Dubai Plan 2021, and the long-term national initiative
launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to build a green economy in the UAE. The award aims to nurture innovative practices in conserving energy and encouraging clean energy in public and private sectors alike. It also serves as a unique platform to exchange ideas, insights and solutions that contribute to reaching new solutions and methods to achieve sustainable development in clean energy, environment and water to ensure a sustainable and safe future for us and for generations to come,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE) and President of the Emirates Energy Award (EEA).
“EEA is a leading platform recognises the latest innovations and technologies in the fields of energy and conservation, to facilitate best practices in energy consumption as well as best cost effective ways to reach solutions to sustainable development in energy, water and environment efficiency, “said HE Ahmad Butti Al Muhairbi, Secretary General of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE), and Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Emirates Energy Award (EEA).
“The award is presented every two years and covers the MENA region. Participating in it is an ideal opportunity for organisations working in energy and environment as well as research centres to demonstrate their innovations. We are confident of the competitiveness of the Omani innovations and their high potential to achieve great results through their participation,” he added.
The conference was attended by Mr. Omar Al Qurashi, Vice Chairman of EEA Marketing and Events and Mr. Naser Al Shaiba, Director of Environment, Health, Safety and Climate Change, DSCE, as well as representatives from universities, institutes and research centres and officials in charge of environment-related and power generation projects in Oman.
In their opening speech, representatives of the Council underlined the role of Emirates Energy Award (EEA) in supporting and rewarding best energy-saving practices that are applicable, innovative and cost effective at the same time.
The conference aimed at attracting private, public institutions and research centres in line with the projects currently being implemented in the Sultanate to achieve a green economy. It is also in line with Oman’s Vision 2020, which aims to meet 10% of electricity requirements from renewable energy sources by 2020.
DSCE has run a series of promotional MENA tours that have achieved remarkable success in terms of participation and media coverage, including in Morocco, Egypt, Turkey, Qatar and Oman.
EEA has 10 categories with gold, silver and bronze medals in each category. These include: Energy Efficiency-Public & Private Sectors, Energy Efficiency-Private Sector Large Energy Project, Small Energy Project, Connecting Solar Power to Buildings Project for Large Projects (more than 500 KW), Connecting Solar Power to Buildings Project for Small Projects (less than 500 KW), Education and Capacity Building (Gold, Silver, and Bronze), Research and Development Young Professional Energy Award, and Special Recognition Award.
