Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA)’s Youth Council organised multiple activities for the Council’s Awareness Week. The activities included a series of field visits and direct meetings with DEWA’s youth, to introduce the Council and its members, its objectives and specialties, and the results of the youth retreat that was organised by the Council in all DEWA’s branches. This is in adherence with the directives of the UAE’s wise leadership to empower and support youth in all fields, activate their role and listen to their ideas and opinions, and involve them in the path to sustainable development.
“DEWA is dedicated to preparing a talented generation of Emiratis who can compete in regional and global energy markets. The future is now open for young people to demonstrate their abilities, and lead in energy and water to be a part of DEWA’s success story, in its leading role worldwide. We established DEWA’s Youth Council, following the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to listen to the voice of the youth, to their ideas and suggestions, and employ them productively. This enhances their skills and activates their positive participation in advancing the comprehensive and sustainable development, at DEWA, so they can contribute to making the UAE one of the best countries in the world, by 2021,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.Photo (1)
“As His Highness once observed, ‘Youth are the powerhouse of any nation and its hope for building a better tomorrow as nations are built and the future shaped by youth, capitalising on their abilities and skills. They are the driving force behind any nation’s progress and advancement. We invest in youth to achieve the progress that we aspire to and steadily pave the way for a prosperous future for current and coming generations.’ We have devoted a week to getting to know the Council and listening to the youth in order to identify their attitudes and ideas on several key themes. Those theme include the Dubai Future Accelerators, Dubai 10x initiative, the importance of continuous learning to achieve the desired professional development of young generations, promoting sustainability in all its environmental, social and economic aspects, and supporting the national values and identity of DEWA’s staff,” added Al Tayer.
“The Council includes the most talented youth nominated by DEWA’s senior officials. 12 members, including 6 male and 6 female employees, have been chosen for a period of two years based on specific criteria. Through the Council, we look forward to utilising these young skills and talents, and providing the means to invest in their creative ideas and orient them in the right direction that serves DEWA’s vision,” said Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources at DEWA.

The Council has succeeded in developing the general frameworks and solid foundations for the establishment of a platform for communication between the youth at DEWA, and the senior management. This reflects DEWA’s unlimited support for the youth,” said Fatima Mohammed Al Jokar, President of DEWA’s Youth Council.
