121 female employees from Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) are participating in the 6th Sheikha Hind Women’s Sports Tournament. The Women’s Sports Committee at the Dubai Sports Council is organising the tournament under the directives of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council. It is held under the patronage of HH Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, wife of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The tournament runs until 30 October 2018.
DEWA’s players are in the lead of most of the competition’s games. They have achieved 1st place in the Road Race – Emiratis category, and 3rd place in cycling. All badminton players have qualified in the first round of the competition.

“DEWA Women’s Committee has adopted a comprehensive approach to encourage female staff to exercise since physical activities are key to improve physical, psychological, and social health as well as improve skills and capabilities. This year, 121 talented and trained female employees are participating in all the events of the 6th Sheikha Hind Women’s Sports Tournament. We are confident they will achieve the top positions in most competitions, like they did in previous years,” said Khawla Al Mehairi, Executive Vice President of Strategy & Government Communications at DEWA.
Suad Abdulla won the first place in the 3,000 metre Road Race for Emirati contestants, and Sara Alfalasi, cam third in the cycling race.
DEWA women’s team has won several titles in the fifth tournament last year in individual and group games. They came first in road race, cycling, and chess among others. This year, DEWA is participating in 10 individual and group games, including basketball, volleyball, handball, swimming, cycling, road race, chess, badminton, bowling, and table tennis.
