DEWA’s participation in World Government Summit results in key partnerships

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has concluded its involvement in World Government Summit 2017 DEWA shared its innovative projects and initiatives to shape the future of electricity and water in Dubai, to achieve the sustainable development of the Emirate.

In the presence of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, signed a sponsorship agreement for the next World Government Summit.

“The World Government Summit has become the most prominent event in the agenda of governments around the world. The visions and theories shared at the summit are references for governments around the world to shape the future, thanks to the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. I thank the World Government Summit and those involved in it, for their considerable efforts, and for providing DEWA with the opportunity to be part of this success and share our experiences with the world,” said Al Tayer.

DEWA’s participation in this year’s World Government Summit was very fruitful, with key meetings and agreement signings. On the first day of the summit, Al Tayer met with His Excellency Liborio Stellino, the Italian Ambassador to the UAE. Al Tayer reiterated the importance of DEWA working closely with Italian energy companies, especially on clean energy, developing further relationships, and sharing expertise.

On the second day of the summit, Al Tayer discussed cooperation opportunities with Elon Musk, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Tesla Motors.

On the final day of the summit, Al Tayer delivered a keynote speech on ‘Innovative Electricity and Water Generation Projects to Improve Efficiency.’ The MD & CEO talked about DEWA’s pre-emptive plans to anticipate the future with its key initiatives and innovative projects to improve the efficiency of electricity and water generation in Dubai.

Al Tayer also met with John Chambers, Executive Chairman of Cisco, and discussed enhancing cooperation and implementing smart solutions to achieve the objectives set by Dubai Government for the future of smart cities.

At the World Government Summit, DEWA shared its experiences of expanding its renewable energy, its efforts to transform Dubai into a global hub for clean energy and green economy with the lowest carbon footprint in the world. DEWA’s projects include the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which is the largest single-site solar energy project in the world, based on the Independent Power Producer model. The park will produce 1,000 megawatts (MW) by 2020 and 5,000MW by 2030 with a total investment of AED50 billion. It will reduce approximately 6.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

DEWA also presented Shams Dubai initiative, which encourages building owners to install photovoltaic panels to generate electricity, and the Green Charger initiative to build the infrastructure and electric vehicle charging stations.
