Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) Women’s Committee kicked off a ‘Run for Zayed’ sports activity in line with celebrating the ‘Year of Zayed’ in the UAE, which marks 100 years since the birth of the country’s Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. This is also part of DEWA’s participation in the UAE National Sports Day 2018. The event aims to encourage female employees to exercise running and jogging on a 3-kilometre track in Nad Al Sheba Cycle Park, and to develop their sports spirit, in light of the support for women and sports from the late Sheikh Zayed.
“DEWA Women’s Committee organised the running activity for its female staff in line with the ‘Year of Zayed’ 2018, which has been declared by HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, to commemorate and honour the legacy of Sheikh Zayed and perpetuate the memory of his support for women and sports in the UAE. The event also comes within the framework of DEWA’s efforts to promote the participation of Emirati women in sports in conjunction with National Sports Day 2018. It also strengthens the efforts of Dubai in cultivating women’s sport within our society, as per the leadership’s direction to promote sport within the culture and society of the UAE across all sectors,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
“DEWA organises sports events for its female employees throughout the year. The women’s sports teams participate in many sports competitions at all levels and have achieved excellent results and won many titles in individual and group games in those competitions,” continued Al Tayer.
Khawla Al Mehairi, Chairperson of DEWA Women’s Committee, praised the senior management for the activities of the Women’s Committee and for encouraging women to participate in various sports activities, to create a balance between their careers, social lives and their health. These initiatives help them realise an active and vibrant lifestyle full of positive energy, and strengthens communication and social cohesion among all.
Al Mehairi pointed out that the ‘Year of Zayed 2018’ is a source of inspiration for the members of DEWA Women’s Committee because of the values and principles established by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, to remind us all of his wishes and aspirations. Through this event, DEWA will highlight the late Sheikh Zayed’s interest in the development of Emirati society across all
