DEWA volunteers participate in Clean-Up the World campaign

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s (DEWA) volunteers participated in cleaning up Al Jaddaf area in Dubai as part of the ‘Clean-Up the World’ campaign, organised by Dubai Municipality, in cooperation with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), under the theme ‘Our Place, Our Planet, Our Responsibility’. The campaign aims to enhance awareness among members of society on environmental issues and the impact of reducing waste for the environment. This comes within the framework of DEWA’s strategy for community and voluntary work and as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) and role in promoting awareness of environmental preservation.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, emphasised DEWA’s eagerness to support environmental and community initiatives to consolidate the concept of voluntary work in the community and encourage employees to actively participate in various voluntary activities. It is also part DEWA’s efforts to protect the environment and promote community awareness on rationalisation and conservation of natural resources.
“Our participation in the Clean-Up the World campaign is particularly important during the Year of Zayed, which celebrates the 100th anniversary of the birth of the leader of sustainability, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan who gave special importance to the environment and its protection. At DEWA, we are committed to promoting social responsibility and fostering a spirit of volunteerism among DEWA’s staff and community members in accordance with a clear strategy and leading humanitarian and charitable initiatives, through which we seek to serve the community and strengthen solidarity and cohesion amongst all its members. We are inspired by the noble values and principles that Sheikh Zayed instilled in the hearts of Emiratis and residents of the UAE,” concluded Al Tayer.
DEWA launched 280 social initiatives from 2013 to 2018, with 96,206 hours of volunteer work achieved by its employees from 2013 to Q1 2018. This contributed to elevating DEWA’s society happiness parentage up to 92% in 2017.
