DEWA urges customers to check internal water connections

DEWA water leakage - مجلة مال واعمال

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has urged its customers to conduct periodic inspections of internal water connections in their houses, buildings and facilities to discover and fix any leaks, and even replace old connections, if necessary. This is part of DEWA’s ‘Let’s Make this Summer Green’ campaign, and supports DEWA’s efforts to instil a culture of sustainability.
DEWA has emphasised that its systems can discover faults in external connections before the metres. DEWA’s billing system detects unreasonable increase in customers’ monthly invoices and informs them to check their internal connections and repair any leaks in water connections with the help of a specialised technician, to reduce wasted water. DEWA is responsible for connections and maintenance up to the meter only, while the customer is responsible for internal connections after the meter. This applies to the residential, commercial and industrial sectors.
“DEWA uses the latest Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, smart monitoring, and control and automation systems to provide electricity and water services according to the highest international standards. DEWA is also installing smart meters, which will increase efficiency and help consumers rationalise their use. We adopt an integrated strategy to involve customers and society members in the efforts to protect the environment and natural resources and reduce waste. This supports the Dubai Demand Side Management Strategy to reduce energy and water use by 30% by 2030, and DEWA’s vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
Al Tayer emphasised DEWA’s commitment to providing its services according to the highest standards of availability, efficiency, reliability, environment and quality contribute to transforming Dubai into the smartest and happiest city in the world. DEWA also contributes to promoting Dubai’s position as a global hub for trade, finance, tourism, green economy, and sustainability, as well as achieve customer and society happiness. He noted that DEWA won the Best Entity in Customers’ Happiness at the 21st Dubai Government Excellence Program (DGEP) awards 2018.
‘Let’s Make This Summer Green’ campaign includes a number of simple tips that society members can follow to reduce electricity and water use. Tips include setting the air conditioning at 24° Celsius, rescheduling appliances that use a lot of energy to the morning or the evening, away from the peak-load hours from 12-6pm, using smart irrigation systems, and fixing any water leakages. The campaign also includes tips before travelling and other pieces of advice that are available on DEWA’s website and smart app.
