Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is organising its Sustainability Week from 11 to 15 March 2018. The week features several pioneering events to promote the concept of sustainable development and encouraging society members to embrace sustainability as a lifestyle and promote responsible consumption of resources. DEWA Sustainability Week supports its efforts to reinforce Dubai’s position as a global hub for sustainability and green economy.
“Organising DEWA Sustainability Week during the Year of Zayed is a tribute to the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who laid the foundations of sustainable development and environmental protection in the UAE. Our wise leadership is following his steps to achieve a balance between development and preserving the environment. The UAE Vision 2021 National Agenda focuses on improving the quality of air, preserving water resources, increasing the contribution of clean energy and implementing green growth plans,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA.
“Dubai has become a comprehensive example of sustainable development, thanks to the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to build an economic model based on environmental sustainability and clean energy, and the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, which was launched by His Highness to make Dubai the city with the lowest carbon footprint in the world by 2050,” added Al Tayer.
DEWA Sustainability Week 2018 includes a number of key events including the Sustainability Leaders Conference 2018 in collaboration with the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership. It will discuss several topics related to sustainability over two days during the Leadership Summit and the Sustainable Development Goals Workshop, with the participation of a large number of experts and specialists from around the world. DEWA Sustainability Week 2018 also includes the Youth Sustainability Forum at the Etihad Museum in Dubai with the participation of a large number of youth and university students, as well as other activities related to sustainability in DEWA’s head office. The Sustainability Week will conclude by organising a volunteering day for employees at Jebel Ali Marine Sanctuary to clean the beach and plant mangrove trees.
