Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has launched the Umrat Khair initiative’, to enable 70 of its employees to visit Mecca, to perform Umrah, during the Holy Month of Ramadan. This is in adherence with the directives of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, who declared 2017 as the Year of Giving, and under the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to launch and support initiatives related to the concepts of giving and compassion, and strengthening the spirit of brotherhood and values of social solidarity among DEWAs staff, especially with the approach of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

We learned from HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, that employee happiness is essential to achieve community happiness. As part of our strategy, we set out a series of initiatives and activities, aimed at making the employees happy, and instilling the spirit of mutual support and communication between different levels and nationalities, as well as establishing work affiliation through the practical application of the teachings of Islam. Umrat Khair is one of our pioneering initiatives in this field. Our goal is to reward employees and enable them to perform Umrah. Their presence in the holy city of Mecca, during the Holy Month of Ramadan means a lot to them and to us. It is an opportunity for them to be drawn closer to Allah, and to do good, and achieve the desired balance between the body and the soul. At DEWA, we are fully convinced that employees are the key to achieving institutional excellence at all levels and sectors, said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
The Higher Committee of the Year of Giving at DEWA approved 12 main programmes to provide 27 social and humanitarian initiatives that directly support the three themes of the Year of Giving initiative. These activities are carried out in cooperation with leading local and international institutions, in the field of humanitarian and community work. We have allocated many initiatives to make the staff happy; both in Ramadan and during the rest of the year, aimed at increasing the efficiency of employees and supporting their professional, social and health balance. DEWA takes responsibility for its staff and places it in its priorities of community work. Over the past few years, DEWAs efforts have contributed to an increase in community satisfaction and happiness levels to reach more than 81% in 2016, added Al Tayer.
I extend my greetings to our wise leadership, the people of the UAE and the Arab world, and the entire Islamic nation, wishing them a blessed Ramadan. May Allah bless and shower us with his blessings, concluded Al Tayer.
DEWA will be sending 70 employees from its non-supervisory staff to Mecca, in two batches, on the 3rd and 5th of Ramadan, on a complimentary basis.
