DEWA organises workshop with Enel to enhance smart infrastructure

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) organised a workshop in cooperation with Enel, a global market leader in energy sector. The workshop focused on the digitalisation and management of smart networks, and the advanced infrastructure of smart cities. It was held in adherence with the vision of the wise leadership, to streamline the smart transformation of Dubai by enhancing cooperation with international organisations.
The workshop held at the Raffles Hotel – Dubai, and witnessed the attendance of senior officials, experts and scientists from both organisations. The workshop was organised as the result of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between both organisations last January, to establish framework for cooperation, to exchange knowledge and enhance smart network management.
The workshop focused on Enel’s strategy for smart network development, and production, transmission and distribution systems, in addition to the integration of renewable energy sources and advanced metering infrastructure.

“Cooperating with Enel reflects our efforts to launch programmes and initiatives, to support the smart transformation of the Emirate. DEWA launched the Smart Applications through Smart Meters and Grids initiative, to implement a smart integrated network, capable of covering generation, transmission and distribution.
DEWA’s smart network was established with a total investment of AED 7 billion, and covers Demand Management, Asset Management, Automation at Switching Stations, Distribution Network Automation, Information and Communication Technology Infrastructure, Big Data Analysis, Smart Grid Security, System Integration and Smart Metering. DEWA launched the Shams Dubai initiative, to encourage building owners to produce their own electricity through photovoltaic (PV) solar panels, to link it to DEWA’s network. DEWA launched its Green Charger initiative to establish the infrastructure for electric vehicle charging stations,” ADDED Al Tayer.
Al Tayer noted the importance of DEWA’s cooperation with Enel, to broaden knowledge sharing horizons, and benefit from world-class experiences which will enhance DEWA’s services and initiatives, to keep pace with rapid developments in Dubai and the UAE. DEWA adopts smart grid technology to aid in systematic decision making, and operational integration, to enhance reliability, sustainability, energy efficiency, infrastructural management, and network operation.
