Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is organising the third Summer Camp for Young Engineers. The camp aims to prepare students for a promising career, allow them to acquire technical skills, develop their scientific research skills, and motivate the younger generation to learn about science and technology. This supports DEWA’s efforts to achieve its vision of being a sustainable innovative world-class utility, and promote the spirit of innovation and creativity among the youth.
The summer camp is open to children (both Emiratis and non-Emiratis) of age 12 to 15, and will run from 16 to 27 July, 2017, at the reading tent, in Zabeel Park. It will include practical trainings on the basics of robotics, ways to develop smart applications, and a series of daily activities and fun competitions.
“Our efforts are in line with the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to instil a culture of innovation among generations. As His Highness once observed, ‘Our responsibility is to prepare generations for the future and our ambitions are to have scientists who contribute to the progress of mankind.’ The camp is an ideal platform for preparing students for a promising career and helping them acquire the necessary technical skills, developing their scientific research skills, and motivating the younger generation to learn about science and technology, as well as promoting the concept of educational entertainment,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
Al Tayer highlighted the fact, that organising the third Summer Camp for Young Engineers came after the great success achieved by last year’s camp, which received a 99% happiness rating from students, and a 100% satisfaction rating from parents.
In a period of two weeks of hands-on training, students will be able to develop robotic projects and handle various inputs and outputs such as infrared sensors, acoustic sensors, DC motors and various integrated circuits. Practical training will also help them develop smart applications and softwares, in terms of software design and development.
At the end of the camp, students will present their robot designs and will work on uploading their applications on Google Play Store. Students with outstanding projects will be rewarded.
