DEWA organises Crisis and Disaster Management workshop in cooperation with National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) organised a workshop on crisis and disaster management, in cooperation with the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority. The workshop, held in Raffles Hotel, in Dubai, was attended by representatives from Dubai Police, the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA), Directorate General of Civil Defence, Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, Dubai Municipality, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the Professional Communication Corporation (Nedaa), the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA), Dubai Supply Authority (DUSUP), Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), and Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA). This supports DEWA’s keenness to share experiences and knowledge among government organisations in Dubai, to complement each other to enhance Dubai’s position in the quality of government work.
During the workshop, DEWA reviewed its plans in dealing with crises and disasters registered with NCEMA. The participating entities presented their plans to enhance crisis management, and to join efforts to ensure the readiness of each organisation.
“The Crisis and Disaster Management workshop is an opportunity to exchange information and learn about the best practices followed by Dubai’s government organisations in risk management. Under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and in line with DEWA’s vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility, we seek to enhance Dubai’s competitiveness globally, and improve the level of government services. We are keen to coordinate efforts among government organisations, and to increase readiness level to deal with emergencies.,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
“DEWA has taken great strides in enhancing its institutional resilience by managing crises and disasters, and managing business continuity, according to the best international practices, considering the strategic importance of electricity and water services. This supports the requirements of the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority. DEWA supplies water and electricity to more than 800,000 residents of the Emirate, based on the highest levels of availability, reliability, and quality. DEWA adopts best international practices, in accordance with the ISO 31000, and the latest integrated management systems in the field of enterprise risk management because they are closely related to DEWA’s strategic planning. In addition, DEWA takes precautionary measures to avoid all forms of risk,” added Al Tayer.
“DEWA is working on harnessing modern technologies as part of its strategy for smart transformation, in the field of risk management, and has launched two new platforms to support and accelerate DEWA’s risk management procedures. These include the Smart Risk Dashboard, which was launched in accordance with the ISO 31000, and DEWA’s Corporate Risk Management Framework, and SAP GRC Mobility, making it one of the first institutions, worldwide to use this smart platform,” concluded Al Tayer.
