Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has organised a Back to School campaign at KidZania, Dubai Mall, as part of its ongoing efforts to raise awareness among children about the rational consumption and conservation of natural resources. The activities included workshops, and colouring, sand painting, and solar home installation, in addition to competitions and prizes. DEWA’s cartoon mascots, Noor and Hayat, took part in the event, where they added a lot of fun, and attracted many children, who participated enthusiastically in activities and competitions.
“DEWA organises various environmental programmes, initiatives, and awareness campaigns to raise a conscious, educated and capable generation. The youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow, and the cornerstone of the sustainable development process, adopted by the Government of Dubai, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. All of our rationalisation initiatives aim to establish a culture of rational consumption in society, as part of the Demand Side Management Strategy to reduce consumption by 30% by 2030,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
“DEWA organises awareness campaigns and programmes throughout the year, as part of its efforts to promote the concept of resource consumption. DEWA aims to make rational consumption a culture and adaily behaviour amongst all members of society, through simple steps at home, school, work, or university. The events, organised by DEWA, have proved the importance of the contribution of all members of society in supporting the national and global efforts to limit the effects of climate change and global warming, to promote the sustainable development of the UAE, and preserve natural resources and ensure their sustainability for generations to come,” added Al Tayer.
Khawla Al Mehairi, Acting Executive Vice President of Strategy & Government Communications at DEWA, noted that the awareness campaign at Kidzania supports DEWA’s strategy to encourage everyone to use natural resources responsibly, and to promote environmental awareness, and green practices.
Al Mehairi explained that DEWA’s Conservation Team organises field visits to educational establishments in Dubai to urge administrative bodies, teachers, employees, and students to adopt rational consumption practices for electricity and water, and raise awareness of the importance of conserving natural resources. The activities also inform the students about the importance of clean and renewable energy, especially solar energy. This gives them insights about their future and the alternatives that the nation’s economy, which is changing into a green one, will depend on, to create a safe and sustainable environment.
