Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has honoured its employees who won the Internal Excellence Awards for the second half of 2016. DEWA also honoured staff who were nominated for the Dubai Medals of the 20th Dubai Government Excellence Programme, graduates of the Leadership Development Programme, winners of the Employee Happiness survey 2016, the team who received the ‘Certified Chief Innovation Officer’ certificates from the Global Innovation Institute, and participants in the ‘British Standards (BS 13500) code of practice for delivering effective governance of organisations’ workshop. Honouring the staff is part of DEWA’s efforts to spread a culture of excellence and encourage positive competitiveness among its staff.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, honoured the employees at a special ceremony at Emirates Towers hotel. The event was attended by DEWA’s Executive Vice Presidents, Vice Presidents, and a number of staff.

Al Tayer congratulated the employees, commending their achievements, which contribute to DEWA’s efforts to pioneer excellence. DEWA is now one of the best utilities in the world, actively contributing to enhancing the excellence and competitiveness of Dubai, and achieving the UAE Vision 2021, to make the UAE one of the best countries in the world by 2021.

“His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai once observed that, “To be creative is to add something new to life as opposed to being a passive part of it. We may not live for hundreds of years, but the products of our creativity can leave a legacy long after we are gone.” At DEWA, we not only aim to achieve success, nor do we rest on our laurels, but our approach involves creativity, innovation, excellence, and development. This has resulted in achievements and top positions in various global indicators, making DEWA an international role model of efficiency, performance, and excellent services,” said Al Tayer.

“DEWA adopts a clear strategy to establish a culture of success and excellence among its employees. We continuously encourage and motivate employees by honouring those who excel and highlight their creativity, innovations, and contributions to develop and improve organisational performance. The Internal Excellence Awards institutionalise a culture of excellence and implement the criteria of organisational excellence across all our operations and organisation. We also seek to achieve the happiness of employees by defining clear ways to recognise their performance and instil positive energy in all the employees and divisions of DEWA. This supports our strategy to provide a motivating work environment for our employees that encourages them to actively contribute to consolidating a foundation of creativity and innovation as a daily way of life, as well as a robust corporate culture. This is done in a motivating working environment that encourages positive competition and recognises the efforts of those who excel through internal excellence programmes and awards, to raise individual and corporate efficiency across all of DEWA,” added Al Tayer.

“At DEWA, we are committed to investing in our staff. This stems from our realisation that our workforce is the most important component for our continuous success and excellence, and our keeping pace with the latest developments and changes. This enables DEWA to continue to excel in anticipating and shaping the future with pioneering projects and initiatives that are based on a clear and comprehensive approach. This approach focuses on innovation and early recognition of opportunities and challenges, analysing them and developing pre-emptive long-term plans to reach the government of the future and keep pace with the Fourth Industrial Revolution. It also makes use of disruptive technologies in the production, transmission and distribution of electricity and water, while enhancing the shift towards increasing renewable energy and achieving the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050,” noted Al Tayer.

“Once again, I congratulate you on your achievements, and urge you to continue your hard work to become role models to your colleagues and work together to promote DEWA’s excellence by working as one team. Your efforts will enable DEWA to achieve its vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility,” concluded Al Tayer.

Categories of the internal awards included Employee Excellence, Administrative Excellence, Customer Happiness, Knowledge Management, Environmental Excellence, Distinguished Enterprise Risk Champion, Happiest Work Environment, Best Division in Happiness Rate, and Best Cable Jointer. Other staff who were honoured included staff who were nominated for the Dubai Medals of the 20th Dubai Government Excellence Programme, graduates of the Leadership Development Programme, the management team who took part in the ‘British Standards (BS 13500) code of practice for delivering effective governance of organisations’ workshop, the ‘Lead Audit Training’ team, who completed the requirements of BS 13500 for Internal and External Audit, and the team who received the ‘Certified Chief Innovation Officer’ certificates from the Global Innovation Institute.

“Honouring the distinguished employees is part of DEWA’s strategy to recognise outstanding and creative staff who help improve organisational performance. Creative people are a true asset for any organisation looking to achieve success. That’s why DEWA is committed to developing the skills of its staff and promoting creativity in the work environment. Honouring the achievements of employees contributes to further promoting a spirit of creativity and innovation, while reinforcing job satisfaction and loyalty. It encourages employees to adopt constructive ideas that help to improve services and achieve happiness for everyone,” said Waleed Salman, Executive Vice President of Strategy & Business Development at DEWA.

DEWA has developed the Internal Excellence Award to enhance all its performance, improve its service quality, and promote a culture of excellence and encourage positive competitiveness among staff. DEWA’s Internal Award is based on the DGEP and Hamdan bin Mohammed Award for Smart Government criteria. Adjustments were made to meet the needs and direction of DEWA’s leadership, to enhance a competitive and positive environment, develop individual and collective performance to sustain excellence across all its operations, and achieve the happiness of DEWA’s customers and stakeholders.
