-

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) held a ceremony to honour its distinguished employees during the first half of 2019, with HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, and DEWA’s Executive Vice Presidents and Vice Presidents also present. Al Tayer honoured 37 employees in different categories: Distinguished Innovative Employee; Distinguished Supervisory Employee; Distinguished Administrative Employee; Distinguished Technical or Technological Employee; Distinguished Specialised Employee; Distinguished Field Employee; Distinguished New Employee; Unknown Soldier, and Innovative Administrative initiative. DEWA also honoured divisions that won in the Health & Safety Week Award 2018.

Addressing the ceremony, Al Tayer commended the outstanding contribution by the distinguished employees to DEWA’s local and global achievements.

“We are proud that DEWA is part of the UAE’s achievements to support the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who said that continually raising our quality of life will make the UAE the happiest country in the world. The efforts of all our colleagues have helped to position DEWA as one of the most distinguished organisations in the world, and a model for international organisations in efficiency, excellence, and achieving the happiness of customers, employees, and society as a whole. In recognition of its efforts, DEWA won over 190 prestigious local and international awards over the last four years. The UAE, represented by DEWA, maintained its global first ranking, scoring 100% in all the indicators, for the second consecutive year, for Getting Electricity in the World Bank’s Doing Business 2019 report that measures the ease of doing business in 190 economies around the world. To confirm its distinguished international status, the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) has selected DEWA, as one of the organisations to test the EFQM Model 2020. DEWA organised a workshop to discuss the updated model with its staff,” said Al Tayer.

Al Tayer noted that last April, DEWA made a global achievement as Dubai received the Platinum Rating in the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) for Cities certification awarded by the US Green Building Council (USGBC). Dubai is the first city in the Arab world and the Middle East and North Africa to receive this prestigious certification. In recognition of its efforts to make its customers happy, DEWA has maintained its top position in the Happiness Index in the large Dubai Government entities category for the second consecutive year with a score of 95%, according to Smart Dubai’s Happiness Index. This monitors society’s happiness in Dubai, and contributes to enhancing the efficiency, measurement and enhancement of smart services in Dubai, to achieve the highest levels of customer happiness.

“At DEWA, we are committed to investing in our staff. This stems from our realisation that our employees are the most important component for continuous success and excellence. DEWA developed the internal excellence awards to spread a culture of excellence and encourage positive competition among staff. As I congratulate and thank you for your achievements, I urge you to continue the path towards excellence and to be role models for your colleagues and work together as one team to contribute to achieving DEWA’s vision to become a globally leading sustainable innovative corporation,” concluded Al Tayer.

“Honouring our distinguished employees is part of DEWA’s strategy to recognise excellent and creative members of staff who help raise DEWA’s competitiveness and develop services, which ensure the happiness of customers and society as a whole. This also supports top management’s commitment to providing a motivating work environment that consolidates creativity and innovation and encourages positive competition among staff. DEWA’s Internal Excellence Awards are based on the Dubai Government Excellence Program (DGEP) and Hamdan bin Mohammed Award for Smart Government criteria, with customisation in criteria to meet DEWA’s needs to promote a competitive and positive environment and develop individual and collective performance to sustain excellence across all its operations,” said Waleed Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development & Excellence at DEWA
