DEWA highlights happiness & significance of integrating people of determination in the workplace through motivational lecture

-

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s (DEWA) Advisory Council for People of Determination hosted Nick Watson, founder of Team Angel Wolf — a unique sports initiative that raises awareness on integrating people of determination and involving them in community activities. Watson gave a motivational lecture attended by a large number of employees, including people of determination, from DEWA’s various divisions. He stressed the need to positively deal with all life situations at work and in life, and to turn challenges into opportunities to achieve happiness. The lecture is one in a series and part of DEWA’s strategy to provide a stimulating and positive work environment for all employees, and in its efforts to integrate and empower its employees of determination,
Watson highlighted his experience with his son, Rio, who has a rare chromosomal disorder that hinders daily routines like walking and communicating with others. Despite this, Watson got Rio involved in sports like marathons, swimming, cycling and others. His experience with Rio proved that nothing is impossible for people of determination in the UAE, who are an integral part of the fabric of Emirati society, and empowering and integrating them into society is essential to achieving inclusive societal happiness. After the lecture, Watson held an open Q&A session.
“DEWA prioritise the interests of its employees from people of determination, in line with the national policy to empower people of determination, launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. This policy aims to create a barrier-free society that ensures empowerment and a decent life for people of determination. DEWA supports the ‘My Community…A City for Everyone’ initiative launched by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, to fully transform Dubai into a friendly city for people of determination by 2020. DEWA is also committed to achieving the UAE National Agenda goals for inclusive employment, a commitment that aims to hone their capabilities and provide them with professional and operational skills that support their economic and social independence. This session is part of DEWA’s initiatives targeted at motivating employees, enhancing positive energy in the work environment, and providing a flexible and qualified environment that gives people of determination the opportunity to demonstrate their potential,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
“DEWA’s higher management stresses the importance of integrating and empowering people of determination in the work environment. These efforts have been translated into policies and procedures to ensure a combined employment journey that provides them with equal employment opportunities, supports their financial independence and enhances their contribution to sustainable development. Inclusive employment is an integrated system of legislative and regulatory measures, programmes, and services. They guarantee an open and non-discriminatory working environment for all capacities which provides them with several choices when it comes to work, and ensures their appropriate support and empowerment,” said Dr. Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources at DEWA, and Chairman of DEWA’s Advisory Council for People of Determination.
