DEWA discusses cooperation with Finnish companies

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Lauri Virkkunen, CEO of Pohjolan Voima, the Finnish clean and renewable energy production company. The meeting supports DEWA’s commitment to establish cooperation and joint efforts, and exchange expertise and insights with international organisations.
Al Tayer welcomed Virkkunen, and reviewed DEWA’s progress in the technical field. He reviewed DEWA’s global achievements in the reliability, availability, and efficiency of production, transmission, and distribution of its electricity and water services.
Al Tayer highlighted DEWA’s key developmental projects and strategic initiatives that support the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, to diversify the energy mix so clean energy will generate 75% of Dubai’s total power output by 2050.
Al Tayer also talked about the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which is the largest single-site solar park in the world, with a planned capacity of 5,000MW by 2030, as well as the first 250MW hydroelectric power station in the GCC to make use of the water stored in the mountains next to Hatta dam. Al Tayer also reviewed the 2,400MW Hassyan clean coal power project, among others.
Virkkunen expressed interest in participating in DEWA’s clean and renewable energy projects, to promote sustainable development in Dubai, and achieve a better future for generations to come.
