Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has concluded its successful participation in GITEX Technology Week 2018. DEWA highlighted its key innovative and digital projects and initiatives that aim to provide quality services and enhance its efforts in supporting the vision of the wise leadership to transform Dubai into the smartest and happiest city in the world.
HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, visited DEWA’s stand. He was briefed by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, about DEWA’s key innovative projects and digital initiatives that provide quality services to the people of Dubi. HH Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman and Chairman of the Ajman Executive Council; HE Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Industry; HE Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, and a number of officials from the public and private sectors also visited DEWA’s stand at GITEX. DEWA’s stand attracted a large number of visitors who commended its innovative projects, smart services, and initiatives that use artificial intelligence (AI), robotics and internet of things (IoT).
Al Tayer commended GITEX and its organisers for creating the region’s largest exhibition of its kind. The event emphasises Dubai’s position as a hub for organising the largest international exhibitions, and a platform that attracts the latest disruptive technologies, as well as the best global experiences and practices that keep pace with the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
“Each year, we participate in GITEX to share best experiences and practices in smart transformation in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to transform Dubai into the smartest and happiest city in the world, and the directives of His Highness to reduce visits to government centres by 80%. We also work in line with the Dubai Paperless Strategy, which was launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, to ensure that the government environment is completely paper-free by 2021. The smart adoption of DEWA’s services reached 92% in Q3 of 2018,” said Al Tayer.
Al Tayer noted that DEWA is creating a new digital future for Dubai through Digital DEWA, the digital arm of DEWA, by becoming the world’s first digital utility to use autonomous systems for renewable energy and storage, while expanding the use of AI and digital services.
During its participation in GITEX 2018, DEWA showcased a model of its Future Customer Happiness Centre, with its smart self-service booths that make it easier for customers to complete their transactions, Tayseer smart bill payment; and remote support through live chat using robots. Services shown also included the High-Water Usage Alert initiative, under Green Dubai, that helps customers identify possible leaks in their water connections by way of their meters. If there are any unusual increases in consumption, the system will send instant notifications to customers alerting them of the potential leak. DEWA also demonstrated its MORO data hub that offers data centre services and business solutions for public and private companies in the UAE and the region.
DEWA’s projects and initiatives also included DEWA Store, which it launched on its smart app to provide exclusive offers and discounts to its customers, in cooperation with a number of public and private sector companies. It also demonstrated Rammas, its virtual employee that answers customers’ enquiries in Arabic and English on DEWA’s website, smart app, Facebook page, Amazon’s Alexa, Google Assistant, and robots. DEWA also demonstrated its Microsoft Hololens, which it uses to enhance its operations, accelerate innovation, and monitor and evaluate maintenance operations among other services.
DEWA also showcased the Ebtikari platform which encourages inventors and innovators from all over the world to send their innovations and ideas. DEWA’s Afkari portal allows DEWA’s staff to present their innovative ideas and vote on the best ideas, similar to social media sites.
The Inventors’ Corner displayed a number of inventions and innovations by DEWA’s employees. These included the CCTV cars, remotely controlled cars with cameras attached to them; the smart helmet; smart ankle, and smart gloves; as well as other tools that support the field operations of DEWA’s engineers, in addition to the smart warning tape which is used to protect infrastructure from damage.
DEWA conducted daily raffle draws for its customers. Customers who used DEWA’s online services using DEWA’s smart app, website, the Dubai Now app, or through banks by using ATMs, check deposit machines, online banking, smart banking apps, or the self-service payment kiosks by Etisalat from 1 January 2018 to 30 September 2018, entered the draw. The services included bill payments; Move-in, Move-to and Move-out services; electric vehicle Green Charger card services; and DEWA Store applications.
