Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) organised a graduation ceremony for 50 high school, college, and university students from various technical and administrative disciplines who participated in its summer training programme. The programme is part of DEWA’s strategy to attract and sponsor Emirati students and help them improve their abilities, preparing them to be future leaders. The programme took place between 15 July and 16 August at DEWA’s various branches and centres.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, confirmed that the annual summer training programme is an opportunity to explore young students who could help DEWA in the future, as they can later be directed according to their potential and capabilities. DEWA annually organises this rich and diverse programme to offer students the practical experience they need to enhance their abilities, skills, innovation, and creativity. It also helps build closer ties between DEWA and students, and introduces them to DEWA’s work and its projects.
“DEWA is keen to develop the capabilities of UAE National students in line with the vision and directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to strengthen the role of the educational system in the preparation of future leaders. These students from scientific and technical backgrounds constitute the basis of creativity, innovation, ambition, and cultural and human development. DEWA strives to achieve the objectives of the UAE Centennial 2071 and the National Agenda for the UAE Vision 2021. DEWA also works to promote Emiratisation through our strategy to prepare Emiratis to lead in the energy and water sectors by attracting skilled Emirati workers and improving their abilities. Emiratisation in senior management has reached 85.45%,” said Al Tayer.
Al Tayer stressed that this year, the programme included the training of Emirati students to deal with People of Determination using Sanad Bag, which was launched by the Community Development Authority (CDA) in Dubai. This develops the skills of government employees as accredited trainers to support People of Determination, and enable them to communicate this knowledge to their fellow colleagues. This also informs People of Determination about their rights. This ensures their integration into society, while achieving the objectives of the Dubai Disability Strategy 2020. The training programme also included a course on Team Building, to enhance a spirit of teamwork and other important topics.
“The programme focuses on exploring students’ skills and preferences, and supervisors provide them with the guidance and recommendations needed to determine their future choices and paths in an inspiring atmosphere that stimulates innovation and creativity. The programme also provides students with an opportunity to familiarise themselves with DEWA’s sectors, departments, and its ground work and operations,” said Dr Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources at DEWA.
