DEWA builds closer ties with Chinese Public and Private sectors

A delegation headed by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD&CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), visited the People’s Republic of China to build closer ties with Chinese renewable and clean energy and smart services and smart grid companies and the Chinese Government.
The delegation included HE Ahmed Buti Al Muhairbi, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Energy in Dubai, Waleed Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development & Excellence, Dr Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources, Marwan Bin Haider, Executive Vice President of Innovation and the Future, Abdul Rahim Sultan, Board Member of the World Green Economy Organisation, and Ahmed Abdullah, Senior Manager of External Communications. Al Tayer met Cui Yuying, Vice Minister of the State Council Information Office, and Dr. Yuan Yinghua, Chairman of the Investment and Financing Committee in the China Investment Association Project, to discuss bilateral relations.
Al Tayer and the accompanying delegation visited Hanergy Holding Group’s headquarters in Beijing. Hanergy is one of the largest international companies in alternative and renewable energy. The visit complements the cooperation between DEWA and Hanergy after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the two sides last May.
The delegation was welcomed by Hejun Li, Chairman of Hanergy Holding Group, Yi Meng, Senior Vice President of Hanergy Holding Group, Thomas Chau, Head of Corporate Finance Department, Tao Lu, Executive Assistant of the Chairman, Meichen Zheng, Board of Directors Office, and Xuliang Deng, Deputy Director of the Solar Automobile Department.
Hanergy Holding Group’s officials welcomed Al Tayer. The two parties focused on renewable and clean energy and its development, and enhancing opportunities for joint investment.
Al Tayer also visited the Exhibition Hall and Exhibition Centre of the Hanergy Clean Energy Exhibition, located at the Beijing Olympic Park, covering an area of 7,000 square metres.
Al Tayer discussed solar power technologies and applications, which included integrated photovoltaic panels and their distribution on the roofs of industrial and residential buildings, residential and mobile power systems, solar-powered vehicles, and various elements of the exhibition. Al Tayer also discussed China’s achievements and advances in clean energy, applications of solar technology, and smart networks.
“This is a translation of the vision of our wise leadership, which has set sustainability and envisioning the future at the forefront of its strategic priorities. We are inspired by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to establish the UAE’s and Dubai’s leadership in the development of key strategic sectors, mainly the energy sector, as well as the development of a promising economic model,” said Al Tayer.
“This visit aims to exchange views and experiences, enhance and activate the latest developments and best practices, review global performance indicators and benchmark high-level comparisons in the renewable and clean energy and smart technologies and services sectors. It also aims to enhance cooperation between DEWA and Chinese organisations to benefit from the best international experiences and practices. We are adopting new initiatives, strategies and techniques that enhance our leadership in the use of disruptive technology, and keep pace with the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” added Al Tayer.
Al Tayer and the accompanying delegation visited the Beijing R&D Centre, which is one of Huawei’s largest research institutes, and employs over 12,000 people. The centre covers the latest pre-5G solutions, Cloud, Big Data, as well as vertical solutions for a smart and safe city.
“We are launching innovative and advanced IT solutions and smart networks to achieve the vision of our wise leadership, and the goals of the National Innovation Strategy and the Dubai Innovation Strategy to make Dubai the most innovative city in the world. We want to consolidate the excellence and competitiveness of the UAE and Dubai by providing state-of-the-art government services, and adopting the best international practices to achieve the highest levels of customer happiness, and promote Dubai’s status as the world’s smartest and most successful city. We are working with leading companies, as well as public and private institutions, around the world, to open new horizons, utilise unique and innovative experiences, to develop and promote our services and applications as much as possible,” said Al Tayer.
“The visit is part of a joint venture with Huawei, which includes R&D projects to develop smart network infrastructures and various mechanisms and technologies, such as smart meters for electricity and water services, energy demand management, and self-recovery mechanisms from errors and disasters. This cooperation between us includes the modernisation of the telecommunications infrastructure, fibre optics, Big Data management, system architecture, analytics, interactive visualisation, security of the IT infrastructure environment, and information security, amongst others,” added Al Tayer.
