Al Tayer strengthens ties with Minister of State for Advanced Sciences

H.E Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer MD&CEO – DEWA (7)

Dubai, UAE, 3 April 2018: HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) welcomed HE Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of State for Advanced Sciences. This shows DEWA’s commitment to share knowledge and cooperate with government organisations in the UAE in all areas of mutual interest to achieve strategic plans and objectives.

Al Tayer welcomed Al Amiri, and stressed DEWA’s efforts in following the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to establish the UAE as a global model for an incubator environment for research and science, and to create a better future for generations to come. To achieve this objective, DEWA has adopted clear strategic plans to support advanced sciences, to promote knowledge and encourage scientific research. This supports the National Agenda for the UAE Centennial 2071, the UAE Vision 2021, and the Dubai Plan 2021.

The R&D centre at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which is close to completion, supports Dubai’s position as a global hub for research and development in solar power, smart grids, energy and water efficiency, and capacity building in these sectors to enable Dubai to meet its sustainable development requirements. The Centre also supports DEWA’s vision to promote sustainability in energy supply, diversify energy sources, and create a business environment that encourages innovation by establishing a platform for creativity and innovation in the field of renewable energy, clean technologies and training national capabilities.

Al Tayer said that DEWA has signed agreements with several international organisations, such as the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) of the US Department of Energy, and the Spanish National Renewable Energy Centre (CENER) in R&D, on the latest developments in energy, water and the environment. DEWA is also collaborating with the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), and Khalifa University, in joint research on renewable energy.
