Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) Women’s Committee has organised a visit for DEWA’s female employees to the Women’s Museum, one of the most prominent landmarks in Dubai. It depicts Emirati women and their role in the comprehensive and sustainable development of Dubai, in all economic, social, and environmental aspects. The visit is part of DEWA’s strategy to create a balance between the professional and social lives of its staff, and its commitment to support the important role of women in the development of the UAE.

Dr Rafia Ghubash, Founder of the Women’s Museum received and accompanied the delegation on a tour within the museum. This included the ‘Memory of the Place’ which displays images of influential figures from UAE society and some heritage collections; the ‘Heart of the Place’ which documents the history of Emirati women in politics, education, economy, community development and stability, women and humanitarian work, among others. The tour visited ‘Zayed Empowering Women’s hall; ‘Bait Al Banat’ gallery to view distinguished works of Emirati female artists; and ‘Diwan Ousha Bint Khalifa’ room, containing a poetic heritage of the most prominent Emirati and Nabati poet Ousha Bint Khalifa, known as ‘Girl of the Arabs’. The tour ended in the Women’s Studies Centre, where a documentary was screened about education history, directed by Dr Ghubash and exclusively owned by the Women’s Museum.

“DEWA Women’s Committee organises events and visits to institutions concerned with women’s issues and their role in the development of society. These visits highlight the achievements of Emirati women so they become a source of inspiration for our female employees, motivating them to gain more knowledge and experience, and excel in various aspects of life. The visit also introduced key figures in UAE history who have enhanced Emirati women’s global position. We are pleased with the visit to the Women’s Museum which draws a vibrant picture of Emirati women and highlights their contribution to the UAE’s success story,” said Aysha Al Asam, Vice Chairperson of DEWA Women’s Committee.

“DEWA is committed to empowering women and providing them with a positive and creative work environment to achieve success, excellence, and active participation in building the homeland and preparing future generations. DEWA also supports women, especially Emirati women to unleash their potential in innovation and creativity. This enhances their role and empowers all of society,” concluded Al Asam.
