Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has organised a workshop to review its strategy for 2021. The workshop, which was held under the theme ‘Zayed’s Legacy for a Sustainable Future’ was attended by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, Executive Vice Presidents, Vice Presidents, DEWA’s experts, and staff. This is part of DEWA’s commitment to continuously develop its strategy to keep pace with rapid developments across all areas and support its vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility.
In his keynote speech, Al Tayer noted that DEWA organises the annual workshop to review and update its strategy, which is aligned with the vision and directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to anticipate the future, innovate technologies, and employ them to achieve the best results.
“Our strategies and initiatives are aligned with government plans and strategies, including the UAE Centennial 2071, which is a long-term government plan to prepare the UAE and young Emiratis for the future; the UAE Strategy for the Fourth Industrial Revolution aims to strengthen the UAE’s position as a global hub for the Fourth Industrial Revolution; the UAE Vision 2021; the Dubai Plan 2021, the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, and other inputs support the transition to a sustainable green economy in Dubai and the UAE. As we organise this workshop during the Year of Zayed, we remember the vision of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and his efforts to build a country that has become a role model for happiness and positivity. Today, our wise leadership continues Sheikh Zayed’s approach, according to a vision that not only anticipates the future but shapes it as well. At DEWA, we are proud that we are contributing to raising the status of the UAE through achievements that puts it on par with the best utilities in the world,” added Al Tayer.
“Strategic planning is a key component of the integrated organisational model that ensures the sustainability of our projects and services, while promoting DEWA’s global competitiveness and achieving our vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility. At DEWA, we are also creating a new digital future for Dubai through Digital DEWA, which is the digital arm of DEWA that will enable us to disrupt the operational model of utilities and become the world’s first digital utility using autonomous systems for renewable-energy and its storage, expansion in AI adoption, and providing digital services. Our 10X initiative will focus on four pillars to deliver a new utility experience for Dubai and the world. The first pillar is producing more clean energy, especially solar power. The second is operating a renewable energy grid using innovative energy storage technologies based on the latest self-learning systems for machines and devices. The third pillar will expand on AI solutions to make Dubai the first city to provide AI-based electricity and water services. The fourth pillar is to use connected technologies to provide 24/7 world-class service-delivery for Dubai. DEWA launched a data hub named MORO to improve the UAE’s digital capabilities in developing smart city. It will also provide state-of-the-art innovative solutions, and a successful model for Dubai and the world to benefit from our innovative approach,” continued Al Tayer.
Al Tayer noted that DEWA regularly reviews its strategy to keep pace with developments. This contributes to DEWA’s competitiveness and its excellence in developing long-term proactive plans, keeping pace with the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and making use of disruptive technologies to achieve the vision of the wise leadership to become the government of the future.
Al Tayer concluded by thanking all the divisions for their efforts to improve DEWA’s excellence to the highest levels and urged them to continue the path towards excellence to achieve the vision of the wise leadership and enhance DEWA’s role in anticipating and shaping the future of energy and contributing to a brighter, more sustainable and happier future, for generations to come.
