Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) launched the ‘Umrat Zayed Al Khair’ campaign for the second consecutive year, to enable 100 employees from its non-supervisory staff to visit Mecca, to perform Umrah during the Holy Month of Ramadan, without any financial burden. This campaign is part of DEWA’s integrated voluntary and social programme during the Year of Zayed 2018, to perpetuate the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, through projects and initiatives in-line with his vision and principles, and as an extension of DEWA’s initiatives during the Year of Giving 2017.
DEWA’s voluntary and social programme during the Year of Zayed 2018, consists of 6 programmes and 29 initiatives that involve multiple activities and events that reflect the noble principles and values instilled by the late Sheikh Zayed in the hearts of citizens and residents of the UAE.
“DEWA has aligned its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and voluntary strategy with the main objectives of the Year of Zayed, in a holistic corporate approach. This approach aims to serve society and promote cohesion among all its members, in accordance with the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to establish the concept of giving, involving all segments of UAE society. The Umrat Zayed Al Khair initiative reflects our commitment towards valuable principles such as tolerance, generosity, mercy, giving, and serving the country. Through its initiatives, DEWA is keen to embody the national and human heritage of Sheikh Zayed which enables the UAE to have a notable presence worldwide thanks to his leadership, wisdom and vision, which is a guiding light for the UAE to reach the goals of the UAE Centennial 2071,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
“The Umrat al Khair initiative aims at making our employees happy and instilling the spirit of mutual support and communication between different levels and nationalities, as well as establishing work affiliation through the practical application of the teachings of Islam. With the approach of the Holy Month of Ramadan, their presence in the holy city of Mecca, means a lot to them and to us. It is an opportunity for them to be drawn closer to Allah, and to do good, and achieve the desired balance between body and soul. Our employees are key to achieving institutional excellence at all levels and sectors,” added Al Tayer.
DEWA’s community and voluntary work programme is an extension of DEWA’s initiatives during the Year of Giving, during which DEWA launched 27 community initiatives within 12 major programmes in various areas of community and humanitarian work within the framework of DEWA’s CSR strategy, which launched 251 community initiatives between 2013 and 2017, contributing to 92% of community happiness in 2017.
